Poodle : Males

The ” males ” we employ for breeding in our kennel are all ENCI pedigree poodles.

They undergo genetic testing at recognized laboratories and have successfully undergone orthopedic testing at accredited veterinary doctors.

Click on each photo and you will find:

  1. ENCI ( National Board of Italian Dog Breeding) pedigree of the poodle with all the genealogy: parents, grandparents, great-grandparents and great-great-grandparents, with details of sizes. By entering the registration number or microchip number shown on the pedigree you will be able to verify further details of the poodle on the ENCI website itself.
  2. the color of the coat. According to the poodle breed standard, the coat in the poodle can be white, black, brown, gray and the whole range of fawn : from champagne cream to deep red.
  3. size : Size in the poodle dog breed is defined by height at withers and not weight as is often mistakenly believed. In order to be called a ” toy poodle,” the height at withers can vary from 23 to 28cm, while for the ” dwarf poodle” it can vary from 28 to 35cm.
  4. the results of the genetic tests we carry out on daddy before employing him in the breeding of our magnificent puppies namely: progressive retinal atrophy (prcd – PRA) and (rcd4 – PRA), degenerative myelopathy, von Willebrand disease, and neonatal encephalopathy.
  5. orthopedic tests i.e., the degree of patella dislocation and the possible presence of aseptic necrosis of the femoral head.
  6. teething status and more about our ENCI-pedigreed toy poodles.

Management of male poodle during female’s heat :

We find it useful to provide some tips on how to handle a male poodle during a female poodle’s heat. It can sometimes be complicated and stressful, but with the right preparation and attention, it can be handled safely and respectfully for both dogs.

Constant monitoring :

Pay close attention to your male poodle’s behavior during the female’s heat period. May show signs of agitation, excitement and desire to mate. Keep him under close observation when he is around a female in heat, especially if he is not spayed.

Physical Separation :

When you cannot directly supervise the two dogs, be sure to keep them physically separated. This may mean keeping the male in a separate room or using fences or barriers to avoid direct contact with the female.

Mental stimulation :

We also recommend putting a lot of effort on mental stimulation : Provide your male poodle with activity and mental stimulation to distract him during the female’s heat period. Interactive games, walks and training exercises can help him channel energy in positive ways.
