THE FIRST TRAVEL BY AIR OF OUR BLACK MALE POODLE “VATY”

The first airplane trip of “Vaty,” our black bum , was an exciting adventure that required meticulous preparation, however. We, eager to ensure the comfort and safety of our very quiet but somewhat wary black poodle for all new experiences to which he was not accustomed, devoted time and attention to planning the trip.

Prerequisite was informing our veterinary doctor about our destination and strictly following the medical directions he prescribed.

PREPARATIONS

The first phase consisted of finding the ideal carrier. After consulting several options and reviews online, a sturdy carrier that conformed to airline standards was chosen, ensuring that Vaty had enough space to move comfortably during the trip.

Subsequently, we carefully planned the airline ticket booking. We opted for a company that allowed animals in the cabin, usually not pssible on “low cost” airlines so that we could keep Vaty close to us during the flight.

Moreover during the booking process, we made it clear that we would be traveling with a dog, and we made sure to get all the necessary information about the procedures and restrictions on animal transport for the specific airline we chose. We always recommend relying on a travel agent as the procedure could sometimes be complex. It would not be at all pleasant to find yourself at the airport with unexpected surprises.

THE CABIN KENNEL

In addition to prepare Vaty for the trip, we started to get him used to the carrier on a daily basis. First, we left it open in the house, allowing Vaty to explore it and gradually get used to its presence.

Than we placed Vaty’s favorite toys and a comfortable pillow inside the carrier, creating a familiar and reassuring environment for our beautiful black bum.

In the days leading up to the trip, we organized some small excursions with the pet carrier, helping him to become familiar with the environment and accept it as an integral part of the trip.

We used several positive reinforcement techniques, rewarding Vaty with treats and praise whenever she voluntarily entered the carrier.

On the day of the trip, we made sure to bring everything Vaty needed: food, water, veterinary papers and a warm blanket to comfort him during the flight.

Once we arrive at the airport, we must always remain calm and peaceful, conveying trust and confidence to our faithful four-legged friend as we prepare for boarding.

Thanks to the care and many attentions, Vaty’s first airplane trip was a success, allowing us to spend a wonderful vacation together and face new adventures together with confidence and love.
