BABY TEETH IN THE BLACK POODLE “ALMA”

Alma, a black toy poodle with an infectious sweetness, went through an experience common to many puppies: the loss of her baby teeth. When her permanent teeth began to emerge, some of Alma’s baby teeth did not fall out naturally as they should have, while her brother “JACK,” a black dwarf poodle, had no problem with that.

Around 6-7 months, noticing a pair of double canines, we decided to take her to our veterinarian for a thorough evaluation. The veterinarian confirmed our concerns: two of Alma’s baby teeth were not coming out properly, causing discomfort and potential alignment problems for the new, growing permanent teeth.

The veterinarian recommended removal of the remaining baby teeth to prevent future complications and ensure proper growth and development of the permanent teeth. After discussion with the veterinarian and receiving all the necessary information, we proceeded with the removal of excess baby teeth.

After her baby teeth were removed, Alma recovered quickly and returned home with an extra dose of cuddles to give her all the affection she needed during her recovery. Over time, ALMA’s new teeth grew healthy and strong, ensuring optimal dental health.

The toy poodle is statistically more susceptible than the dwarf poodle so we recommend paying close attention to teething development in the first months of life for those who own a smaller poodle such as ALMA, while on the other hand the family who had adopted his little brother “JACK,” a black dwarf poodle did not experience this “inconvenience” although it is always necessary and recommended to make periodic visits to the veterinarian for a teething check in the first 6-8 months of the puppy’s life.
