A SHORT TRIP TO EUROPE WITH OUR RED TOY POODLE: ESTEPONA
To travel to Europe with our ESTEPONA, a young red toy poodle female, we had to prepare the following documents and requirements:
1. European Pet Passport
Issued by regional veterinary authorities, the European pet passport is the essential document for traveling between EU countries. It contains:
Estepona’s information (breed, age, color, etc.).
Owner’s name and details.
Vaccination record, including rabies vaccination (done at least 21 days before travel).
2. Microchip Identification
A microchip that complies with ISO 11784/11785 standards. This device uniquely identifies our red toy poodle. Before we left, we obviously had our veterinarian check that the microchip was readable and the data up to date.
3. Certificate of Vermifuge Treatment (if required).
For some European countries (Ireland, Malta, Norway and Finland), treatment against Echinococcus multilocularis (tapeworms) is mandatory. The treatment must be administered by a veterinarian 24-120 hours before entry into the country and recorded in the passport.
4. Rules of Transportation
For air travel, we obtained an airline-approved carrier so that ESTEPONA would travel with us in the cabin. Airlines also require verification of the weight and size of the dog with carrier.
5. Digital Copy of Documents
Finally, for added security, we prepared all digital copies of Estepona’s documents (passport, vaccines and certificates), saving them on the phone or in the cloud.
6. Confirmation of Pet-Friendly Facilities.
In addition, before the trip, we carefully checked whether hotels, restaurants, or other accommodations accepted pets. With all these documents and preparations in order, we were therefore absolutely ready and prepared to travel to Europe with our red toy poodle without any problems.
