Girvan and her walks: the right leash for an energetic and curious brown poodle
Walking with your dog is one of the most beautiful and important activities of the day. For Girvan, a lively poodle from our brown poodle breeder kennel, the walk is much more than just a time to relieve herself: it’s a chance to discover the world, socialize, sniff every nook and cranny, and… maybe look for some cookies hidden in her pocket! But what kind of leash is best for a poodle like you? And what do you need to know to make walks enjoyable, safe and stress-free?
The curious and active nature of the poodle
Poodles are intelligent, active and sensitive dogs. They love to walk, run and interact with their surroundings. Girvan, with her gorgious and curly brown coat, is the perfect example: every walk for her is a little adventure.
However, to experience this moment to the fullest, in our brown poodle breeder kennel we choose the right kind of leash, considering their physical structure and fur type.
Bib yes, but watch out for the coat
Girvan has always preferred the harness to the collar. It is more comfortable, does not pull on her neck, and allows her to move freely without feeling suffocated. In our brown poodle breeder kennel, we have chosen a soft, adjustable harness for her that clips easily onto her back. It is perfect for walks in the city, parks or even on country paths.
However, there is one small drawback: the harness tends to ruin the hairs, especially in poodles that have a curly, fine, knot-prone coat. After each walk, we brush and comb her chest and sides, where the harness presses the most, to prevent annoying tangles.
The ideal type of leash
For Girvan, the perfect leash is a medium-short one that is strong but lightweight, allowing freedom of movement without making her feel too far away. Nylon or soft fabric models are preferred, but retractable versions can also be used in protected areas where there are no hazards.
What Girvan does on walks
Whenever we leave our brown poodle breeder kennel, Girvan has a routine all her own. As soon as she puts her paws outside, she sets off like a little explorer: she sniffs every corner, greets other dogs smartly, and often stops to watch passersby. She has an adorable habit: when she meets a child, she sits and waits to be petted.
During his walks, Girvan loves:
- Smelling bushes and trees (especially those she knows as a puppy)
- Follow the leaves moved by the wind
- Collect small twigs or leaves, which he sometimes even tries to take home
- Stopping in front of stores where she knows they sometimes give her a cookie
- Walking beside us, looking at us with soft eyes when he wants a cuddle or a break
A peaceful walk through our brown poodle breeder kennel
To make poodle walks even better, here are some helpful tips:
- Brush the hair before and after the walk, especially in areas where the harness adheres
- Always carry fresh water, especially in summer
- Rewarding good behavior with small snacks
- Change paths every now and then to stimulate the mind and fight boredom
- Take regular breaks so the dog can observe and rest
Girvan loves her walks, and with a little attention to grooming and choosing the right leash, every outing becomes a party. For such an inquisitive brown poodle, the controlled freedom of the leash and the comfort of the harness are essential–even if, every once in a while, we get a knot in the fur!
